What a Match!

HGFC 4 TPUFC 3

This should be shortlisted as one of  the matches of the season.

Cheetahs were already 2 goals up when I reached Hougang Stadium as I booked out late from my reservist unit. I thought it should be another routine win for the team, a "Training Match" as the HOOLs described it.

The 3 points were as good as in the bag when Sobrie Mazelan scored after the break. Never did we expect the Tanjong Pagar Jaguars to be tougher than the Balestier Tigers when they fought back to draw 3 - 3. The Jaguars' No 7 gave our Cheetahs' defense a lot of problems and forced a few great saves from the ever reliable Fadhil Salim.

Jordan Webb's last minute screamer saved the day and gave the Hougang faithful something to cheer about. Instead of 2 points lost at home, it's 3 straight league wins for the Cheetahs. Hougang United should be given the title of "Surprise Package" of the season. The Wooden spoon looks likely to end up in Woodlands!

Looking at the fixture list, Cheetahs will be facing title contenders SAF, Albirex and Home at Hougang Stadium next. Hougang Stadium is fast becoming a fortress. I'll be looking forward to our Cheetahs giving the visitors hell in the Hougang den.

Go Cheetahs!

Celebrations!
